Selling ad slots on your blog is the best way to make money from your blog.I’ve seen many blogs putting “Advertise Here” ad banner of size 125 x 125 on their blog with all the ad slots empty. It creates a bad impression on readers, How ? I’ll tell you. Continue reading..

Why bloggers place a lot of empty ad slots on their blog

When I started blogging and had my first blog on Blogger, I also used to place four 125 x 125 ad space in the sidebar just because I used to think that placing these banners will attract advertisers and it was a real false assumption.

Why I do not recommend you to have a lot of empty ad space

It gives negative impression to visitors : Having all empty slots on your blog gives a negative impression on your readers as you blog looks nearly dead and not happening.

Devalues your blog : Having a lot of empty spaces on your blog devalues your blog as visitors start counting the negative factors of your blog. The visitors start comparing one blog with another thus counting even tiny factors also.

It makes you look desperate : Having empty slots on your blog makes you look that you’re very desperate of selling ads and making money.

Occupies space on your blog : Empty ad slots occupies precious space on your blog. You can utilize the same ad space with some other valuable stuff.

Solution

Create “advertise here” page : I recommend you to create a new page and name it as Advertise, and put it at the top of your web page i.e in header. Now, in this page, give detailed view of your traffic and what type of advertisers you want. This is the best way to get more advertisers.

Well I think at the most you can have one “Advertise Here” adspot. It gives an impression that the advertise spots are for sale and then you can redirect the reader to an Advertising page. Having more then one empty spot is not profitable :D
