It is very hard to find a perfect template/theme for a blog, that is why I told you about one of the best SEO optimized WordPress theme called Thesis Theme, it is one of my favorite design. Now coming to the topic, today I am going to tell you how to install WordPress themes in your blog. There are two methods to install a theme and I’ll explain you both in detail, lets start :
Installing Theme using WordPress Dashboard
1. First, make a zip file of your theme. You can use 7Zip to make a zip file of your theme. Click here to download
2. Now login to your WordPress dashboard and in the left hand side under Appearance click on Add New Themes, have a look
3. Now, at the top click on Upload, have a look
4. After clicking on upload, click on browse and navigate to the zip file that you created in the first step and click on Install Now.
5. If you’ve done all the steps as told, woo! you’ve successfully installed a new theme. Now comes a problem how to activate it and apply it to your blog. I’ll tell you how to activate this theme, later in this article.
Installing Theme using FTP client (FileZilla)
FTP(File transfer protocol) client is a software that is used to transfer your files from hard disk to your server. To perform this task we will need four things :
- Host
- User-name
- Password
- Port Number
You might have got all the details when buying hosting. Now before starting this tutorial I assume that you have got all the above mentioned things. Lets start :
1. First download FileZilla from here and install it in your system.
2. After installing it, open it and at the top, type the required details like host name, username, password and port number and click on QuickConnect. Have a look
3. As you will click on QuickConnect, at the bottom you will see two panels, the left hand side panel is your hard disk and the right hand side panel is your server. So, in the lft hand side panel navigate to your main theme folder.
4. If you’re on Hostgator, then click on public_html and then go to wp-content and then select themes folder.
5. After opening the themes folder, in the left hand side panel, right click on your theme folder and select Upload. Have a look
In this way you can install any theme to your WordPress blog. Now I’ll tell you how you can apply uploaded theme to your blog.
Activating/Applying newly installed theme to your blog
1. Again in the left hand side under Appearance click on Themes. Here you will see the list of all the installed themes. At the top you will see the current installed theme and below is the list of all the uploaded themes.
2. To activate any theme, simply click on Activate below each theme, have a look :
