I always believe in the theory that well begun is half done. So, before you start blogging there are few things that you must keep in mind in order to make your blog successful. In my today’s article I’ll be discussing those points with you all so that you do not make those mistakes that I made when I started blogging 2 years back. Lets start :
Why you want to blog ?
Just sit and ask yourself why you want to blog? Different reason of blogging will lead to different ways. If you want to start a personal blog, then you do not have to worry about making money but if you are creating a blog for the sake of money then the methods and style of blogging will be different. It is very important to ask yourself why you want to blog.
Blog topic
After you’ve decided why you want to blog then it is very important to have a nice topic/subject/niche for your blog. I’ll be writing a full flesh article on how to find a good niche for your blog but now you must remember only two points that start blogging on that topic in which you have (i) knowledge (ii) interest. If you’ve these two things in mind, do not think anything just create a blog and start blogging.
Blog Name
Blog name is another very important factor to consider. Technically, a blog name is called Domain. Your domain name should be eye catching and should match to the niche of your blog. According to me, if you have good content and beautiful blog design then blog name does not hold any importance but it is a plus point to have a domain name that matches to the topic of your blog. Blogging Platform/Blogging Software
You want to start a blog! but How ? You will need some blogging software for it. There is a huge list of blogging platforms but two of my favorites are

Blog Template/Theme/Design

As mentioned by you, research is a very important phase. I realized that rather late and having wasted many years.
I have now started working on similar tips provided by you. Once I am pretty sure of my niche, keywords, then only I go and start the blog.
I also look out for good traffic.
