Does Google Consider Meta Keywords : Google MythBuster Series Part 3

by Gagan on May 24, 2010

Recently I read an article on a popular tech blog and there the author wrote that selecting good keywords and using them on post page can help you to get at top on Google SERP. That post inspired me to write my today’s article and today I’ll be telling you does Google consider meta keywords now. If yes then how and if not then why. Lets start:

No, Google does not consider meta keywords while ranking your site on its search page

As confirmed by Matt Cutts, Google pays zero attention to meta keywords now. Do not waste your time on selecting a list of good keywords and putting them in your post pages. Yes, earlier meta keywords had some value but now its zero.

Why meta keywords are zero in terms of SEO now

Let me explain this with an example, suppose you’re writing an article on “How To Install WordPress Themes” and in the meta keywords you’re giving keywords like WordPress, Plugins, How To, Get Traffic, SEO, etc.

Now, does it makes any sense to add SEO keyword to the post that is on how to install WordPress themes. The answer is no. Earlier, to get on first page of Google, bloggers used to stuff unwanted keywords on their post page. To stop this kind of trick now Google does not considers meta keywords at all.

Rather, now Google watches:

  • Post Title
  • Post Description
  • Backlinks
  • Unique and original content
  • and many other factors but definitely not meta keywords

Now in future if you read any post that says meta keywords can get you traffic, just tell him/her that stop this crap, I know the basis of SEO now as I am following Google MythBuster series on CBI :D

I even watched the video by Mattcutts, Google does not look at it . But other search engines like Yahoo!, Bing, Ask might have as one of the possible way. Although 60% of people, searches in google, other SE might have a good result with some SEO steps..
