by Gagan on May 21, 2010

This is my first post on Google MythBuster series and today I’ll be going to tell you that does domain age matters when Google makes search engine rankings or not. I’ve seen a lot of posts on SEO blogs also that says that if you’re serious about blogging buy domain for 3-4 years, it will help you to rank higher on Google”. Lets find out is this true or not.

Domain age does not matters at all in Google SERPS(Search Engine Result Page)

Yes, you read it right. Google does not pay any attention to domain age while ranking your posts on search page. Do not worry if you’re registered your domain for 1 year or 10 years, it will not affect your rankings. Google pays attention to content, not domain age.

Yes, Google does pay attention to domain name. Suppose, you’ve a domain ComputerTricks.com and if someone searches for Computer Tricks on Google, your domain will surely come up on top because it includes those two keywords(Computer and Tricks). thnx for the info and I personally feel this is how it should be…

there is no link between age of domain and its contents and we are bloggers not investors tht we invest in a domain for 5 years and then it will give us returns..

by following this policy, google has proved tht it has brains and tht is why it is on top..

Hi Nihar,

Sorry buddy, age does not matters at all. You might have read about the age factor on popular SEO blogs, but the domain age does not matters at all. :)

How do you come up with this conclusion? Perhaps there is an experiment you did. Would you like to share with us your data?

And all the suckers who purchased domains for the Page Rank value. That stuff is reset when IP’s and servers are changed. Links-good links, quality over quaintly matter. More important than 10 years of history.

I disagree. I’ve developed about 5 websites, 3 of which were registered 1998-2004 and were never dropped. Those three ranked in the top of google a lot quicker (I saw all three on the 1st page of google within 2 weeks after uploading the site content) than the 2 domains I recently registered which took two months to get top search engine ranking on google. Aged domains definitely saved me time, IMO.
