First of all, thanks for considering our blog (TechChunks.com) worth mentioning along with other blogging heavy-weights like Problogger and Techie Buzz.

We are using a theme by “Theme Junkies” and have done subtle modifications to make it suit our needs (while making sure it is productive and gives our user a pleasant stay when they are visiting us).

I’m a Software Analyst in my day job and having worked on Web Usability has helped me a great deal in understanding how important “ease of navigation” is for any web user. Having an aesthetic pair of eyes doesn’t hurt either! :)

Yes I agree that the Homepage should have more content. But it should not confuse the reader also. Designs depend on the type of niche you are in. for example, if your website or blog is about copy writing, then these kind of homepage wont make any sense to.

IMO: Home page should be optimised for loading time and have YSlow of around 80%.
Few more pointers for home page:
1.Should not have be longer in height and should not have horizontal scroll.
2.Should link with most active page of your site as google sitemap’s catches the links from homepage itself.
4.You already might be aware of not calling useless scripts at the header of homepage. (scripts that called due to installed plugin’s like cforms, bookmarking plugins, polls and etc).
5.Should have proper and clearly visible search box.
6.Should not be crowded with ads

My few cents !

Too many posts n categories look like a news, not a blog. What if a categ. is not posted for long?- old content will be displayed.

Hi Shekhar,

If a category is not posted for long time then its better you choose only those categories on home page on which you write the most.

I always wish to have such a homepage but my post frequency is low. So its not a good idea for me to have such a blog homepage.
