3 Things To Check Before Accepting Link Exchange Request

by Gagan on May 18, 2011

Yesterday I got an email from someone asking me to link exchange with his Page Rank 5 blog. He told me that he will put the link up in 24 hrs after I keel his link. I clicked the link and was amazed to see his site. His site had PR 5 with only 5-6 articles and all the articles were written on 16th May, 2011 i.e two days back. I explored his blog and at last came to the conclusion that he had a fake page rank. So, I decided to share some measure to be taken before accepting any link exchange request. Lets start:

Check if the site/blog has a fake page rank or not

You can check out my article on Madras Geek I wrote explaining about Fake Page Rank in detail

Check if the site/blog suits your site niche

The link exchange will be of no use or if you exchange the links with off topic site. Suppose you’ve a blog about Mobiles and you’re exchange links with a Car Insurance website. Does it sounds natural ? NO! so, avoid exchanging links to off topic sites

Check if the site/blogs falls under these 4 categories

Before accepting link exchange request please note that site does not falls under these four categories:

  1. Viagara
  2. Gambling
  3. Porn
  4. Pirated stuff like movies, software and music

So, before accepting any blogroll request make sure you follow the above three things.

Ofter we forget about the site and its quality, it may be due to lack of proper knowledge about link building.

Day by day bloggeres we getting many automated spam comments from the niches which you said in your article, so those niches won’t help us anymore to build quality back link.

thanks to the awesome post :)

hi Gagan, I wonder how do you measure or check the page rank of a blog or site since the major update in mozilla firefox. I have installed google toolbar, but it requires outdated version of mozilla. On other hand google toolbar does not do well in Internet Explorer?

Some people may like to earn traffic and backlink with link exchange.
But in order to manage your Page Rank well.
You need to set follow and unfollow to every link.
If you set no follow , then google spider will not crawl to that website.
So it would not effect your page rank.

To those link exchange that high PR, high traffic and related . You may set dofollow so allow google to crawl their website as well and get a quality backlink.

Personally if you ask me, I am completely against the concept of Link Exchanging.. in fact Google never recommends that.. But the checklist which you have mentioned is a must check for those who are planning to exchange links..
