by Gagan on April 16, 2010

Creating a SEO friendly blog is not a tough job, all you need is proper guidance. In my last article I gave you onsite WordPress SEO tips. My today’s article may look similar to previous one but its totally different. My today’s article will tell you some SEO tips that you must follow to make search engines happy. All the tips that I am going to tell you are tried and 100% working. Lets start :

Keywords

While writing any post, make it a habit to give relevant keywords but remember, do not overflow your article with too many keywords. Why ? Because search engines does not likes it!

Domain Name

While selecting a domain, it will be a plus point if you select a keyword that suits the niche of your blog. For example, my blog is on Blogging that is why I’ve added “Blogging” keyword in my domain name. It helps me to get higher ranking in search results when someone searches for a particular term and includes the keyword “Blogging”.

Use Good Web Hosting Company

Suppose, Google bots visits your website and your site is down. Now, in this situation the bots will mark your website as flag for future visit, resulting in bad search engine rankings. So, your web hosting company must be a top class. I recommend Hostgator.

Outgoing links

Before giving any link in your article, make sure that the link does not redirect to a site that is about :

  • Illegal softwares
  • Cracks, serials, patches and keygens
  • A porn site

Use nofollow tag

If you are giving any link in your article and the link does not fall in any above mentioned category then use the no-follow tag. Use the following code :

<a href=”link-here” rel=”nofollow”>Link Here</a>

Keep your comment box spam free

An important SEO factor is, always keep your comments section spam free. You can use Akismet WordPress Plugin for removing and preventing spam comments.

Decrease bounce rate

Short term visitors, can be a negative point in terms of SEO, so make a neat design and work to decrease bounce rate.

Article submission

Suppose, you come across a software that is new and not much reviewed by other sites. Now, in your blog write a detailed review about it and also write a short review for article submission websites say EzineArticles. Now submit the short article to EzineArticles giving link to your detailed article. As your article will get published, you will get a backlink from a high PR website.

Do not keep paid links

I recommend you to strictly follow the rule that “DO NOT PLACE PAID LINKS IN YOUR BLOG”, Google may penalize your blog.

Say no to paid services

Do not ever go for paid services that claims to increase your page rank. Avoid them! Concentrate on writing good content and follow the above mentioned SEO tips. That’s all for today. Keep visiting and commenting.

Lalit, good question. It makes sense to make the link a dofollow.

Thanks a lot for putting together these points. I agree on most of them but the one about nofollow. I though the Google does not pay attention to nofollow as it relates to passing the juice. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Thanks again for the list!

That’s definitely true about having at least one keyword in the domain name. You can also do well if you put two or even three.

I have done that with a couple of sites and it definitely helps. I have one blog that has a kind of meaningless domain name with no keywords in it, and even though it’s been up for a while, and got lots of good content and many backlinks, it doesn’t get as much traffic as my newer sites with keywords in their domains.
